Atchison County Memorial Building

Historic Restoration

Description

The City of Rock Port, MO knew that they had a gem of a building on their hands.  In need of some much needed TLC, Rock Port recognized that, as a World War I Memorial, something needed to be done to preserve the structure for future generations.  After all, in two hours time, the town of just over 1,000 raised the $25,000 to build the building back in 1921.

Today, the building stands as a testament to those who served and the efforts the town put forth to remember them.  SSM, using modern equipment of today, reproduced historic elements of the period, to return the building to its original Classical Revival state.  SSM re-created and installed historic moldings, cornice elements, standing seam roof panels and trims.
