Description
In a wooded site next to the Grain Valley High School, Hollis + Miller created an out door learning lab that they call Learnscape. As part of their community involvement, this philanthropic effort provides Grain Valley citizens with a place to connect with nature and students with a place to grow and learn.
A series of paths connect outdoor class rooms and gardens to engage with nature in a learning setting. Marking key points, a series of markers and graphic elements provide visitors with places for education and contemplation.
SSM contributed our material expertise and metal working skills to bring these components to serve as back drops to this remarkable educational effort. Using weathering steel, SSM fabricated signage elements, support panels, landscape framing edges and other features that tied the handcrafted elements to the natural ones found on site.
The results are features that blend with nature while still being able to stand on their own within this setting.
