Manhattan Parking Garage

Art Feature

Description

A new, five story garage introduced an opportunity to create an exciting art feature within Aggieville.  While having over 450 parking spots is a big draw for this new parking structure, the real feature is located in an alley way that runs between the garage and an adjacent building.

Fabricated from 1/4″ thick aluminum plate, SSM laser cut 60 unique cloud forms to create this artistic representation of a prairie storm system.

Above, an aluminum tube frame structure supports frosted, polycarbonate panels and a concealed gutter to capture rain runoff, protecting pedestrians below.  As part of the system, decorative LED lights complements the art piece, accentuating the cloud forms.

At ground level, perforated aluminum panels – supported by aluminum tube frame –  provide a backdrop to historic photos depicting a timeline of the neighborhood.

Completing the look, a four story tall “movie marquee” anchors the walk way, celebrating “The Little Apple” of Manhattan, KS.
