Johnson County Square Stage

Description

Sited on Santa Fe Street, between Kansas Avenue and Cherry Street sits a unique outdoor amphitheater.

Prior to the 1950s, this site was a gathering space for the community.  In 2021, the decision was made to return the site back to what it was by introducing new green space and an outdoor stage that would bring people back to gather in this area and allow for events to take place on a multipurpose stage for all to enjoy.

TreanorHL was commissioned to create a stage that would be functional and striking while providing shelter and serve as a backdrop to whatever functions the citizens chose to host.  Once they found their direction, the Design Team approached SSM to select materials and develop the details that would bring the components together as a cohesive whole.

The primary components included a roof system designed for low slopes that also allowed for the integration of the skylights, fascia and gutter components that defined the edges of the roof form, soffit panels that provide for a clean underside of the roof structure and, a back lit, perforated wall panel system to conceal the various support and back of house components needed for the stage’s operation.

Selecting materials for durability was as important as the details which lead SSM to bring together a fabricator from the Shop and our Field Superintendent to create components that could all work well together.
