Description
Today, STEM and FIRST programs are instrumental to a student’s education in the modern world. Things are only getting more complex and these programs help students solve problems and develop solutions to resolve issues of all kinds.
The importance of these programs may have contributed to the decision to build two new robotics dedicated facilities at the same time – one for Lee’s Summit North and the other for their West High School.
Both building share the same plan and design aesthetic. These sharp looking buildings reinforce that something special is going on inside.
On the outside, they are clad with a 2 1/2″ thick, insulated metal panel [IMP] for energy efficiency. This also serves as the building’s primary weather barrier. Then, a series of Zee furring strips support the custom perforated and corrugated, anodized .083” aluminum panels.
On the top, both buildings feature a double lock, standing seam roof system featuring 16” wide continuous panels. Some panels are about 75’ long! This system also has matching gutters, downspouts, flashings and trims in a charcoal grey.
While the same in function, design and plan, to tell them apart, each was given their own color:
- North = Colonial Red & Zee Furring is clear anodized.
- West = Zinc Grey & Zee Furring is bronze anodized.
Together, they signal that Lee’s Summit is taking STEM seriously!
