Having worked in a similar capacity with both GouldEvans and McCownGordon, SSM was brought into the project at an early stage to offer Design / Build services. After SSM won the initial bid, the design teams of DLR Group and GouldEvans wanted to see if SSM could help them realize their vision for a custom cladding solution while still maintaining the original target budget.
SSM accepted the challenge of developing a panel solution that responded to the design, met the performance criteria and hit the budget target. Working with clear anodized aluminum sheets, SSM explored custom shaped panels that responded to the design directive and produced a full scale mock up for approval.
The mock ups were attached to the outside of our building for viewing. This allowed the design team the ability to see exactly how the custom panels would look under day light conditions and helped them to achieve their goal of giving the project a custom look.
Custom panels are only a part of the equation. Cleanly executed corners and window returns define the edges while custom parapet caps follow the panel forms and complete the look. Above, around the upper level and the roof top equipment, SSM provided 3″ corrugated, insulated, wall panels in silver metallic finish. SSM also utilized their ACM panel’s open joint rain screen components with custom gutters and down spouts.
The results speak for themselves. The building has a unique, dynamic look that reflects the innovational learning going on inside.
